Will Motion Assist work on my Android phone?

Motion Assist is Android’s motion-sickness reduction overlay. Google’s published requirement is simple — Android 17 or higher with updated Google Play services — but rollout timing can still make an eligible phone look unsupported.

What Google actually requires

Google’s Android Help page says Motion Assist needs an Android device running Android 17 or higher with Google Play services updated. The feature lives under Google services rather than being a normal standalone app.

Where to find Motion Assist

Google documents the path as Settings → your Google profile / Google services → All services → Personal & device safety → Motion assist. You can also search Settings for “Motion assist” or add its Quick Settings tile when available.

Why it may be missing even on Android 17

The published OS requirement does not prove that every eligible model receives the server-side feature at the same minute. On September 14, 9to5Google reported a wide rollout on its Pixel devices and Samsung Galaxy Fold8-series devices running Android 17, with Google Play services version 26.33.32 observed in that rollout. That rollout evidence is useful, but it is not a promise for every manufacturer model.

What to try before assuming incompatibility

Update Google Play services, restart the phone once, then search Settings again. If your phone is on Android 17 and the menu is still absent, treat it as a rollout gap unless the manufacturer or Google publishes a model-specific exclusion. Avoid factory-resetting a working phone just to chase a staged feature.
